In The Kagayanon News The Kagayanon Whereabouts (Where to find me?)

GDAYX Cagayan de Oro

On November 16, 2013, the Google Business Group – Cagayan de Oro City chapter has successfully implemented the first GDAYX CDO. GDAYX CDO is a one-day seminar on the use and importance of the different applications and services offered by Google in business operations. The event gathered businessmen, educators, IT specialists, and students. It aimed to help those who have businesses and those who would like to venture into one improve their business operations using the services offered by Google.
When I heard there was an event like this, I excitedly signed up. For one, I have an online business which I would like to improve in terms of sales. I would also like to learn what Google can offer me in terms of flourishing my business and meet people in the conference having the same passion and desire as mine.  I was just so happy when they approved my application. I was looking forward the event.
GDAYX CDO started with the usual preliminaries in the morning. The A.M. session ended with a challenge from GMA-7, the media partner of the event.

The afternoon paved way for the BREAKOUT SESSIONS which were held in two adjacent rooms. The delegates were divided into two and were given the chance to choose the Breakout Sessions they would like to participate in. I was able to hear 6 speakers on the Breakout sessions as I was always going out and about the two venues.

The first breakout session was on Technopreneurship by Katherine Yap. What I like about this session is that she was able to share her events management business success with the help of Google products particularly Youtube and Instagram.

Setting Up a Tourism Business and Marketing it Online by Maria Irene Aserios was the second breakout session. She specifically orient us on the importance of the internet and online marketing in promoting businesses particularly those which are tourism-related. As pointed out by her, we should “Create a business that can market itself” and that we should maximize the free services of the internet in marketing out business.
The third breakout session was a talk on the use Google places and maps. He said it is important to map out the location of any business so that it can easily be traced by a potential consumer once they search on the search engine.

Vic Marion Madriaga, an award winning blogger, taught the delegates on how to set up and use Blogger for Business. He specifically pointed out that we should focus on something that we are passionate about as success comes from a simple desire. Accordingly, it is also important to produce good quality content, products, and services in the business website to attract the specific consumer market.
As this was a Google event, the fifth breakout session that I was able to join was on the different Google apps for business. In this session, the speaker specifically cited the different products and services of Google which we can use in operating our businesses. Google Calendar, Google sites, Google forms, Gmail, Google maps, Blogger, Google+, and Google hangout are among the many different apps that we can avail and use. The good thing is that most of these apps are for free, so why not maximize the use of them? Right?

The last session was learning how to measure business success with Google Analytics. Carlo Borja taught us the importance of web presence in measuring business success. With the use of Google Analytics (google.com/analytics), a business owner will know if people are viewing the site and if they like what they see and read. It will also give an idea if the business, using the site, attracts target market or if anyone is actually buying the products and checking the services. Carlo cited the benefits of using the Analytics to know where people come from, the audience, and how people interact with the content. Real time statistics and goals, among others, are also available for use.
GXDAYCDO ended with the sharing of a firsthand experience of the use of the Google products by Joseph Sabal.

It was an enriching day for me and for all the delegates of GDAYXCDO. Now, I can’t wait to use the products and services of Google to improve my current online business. Thank you Google and thank you to the Google Business Group of Cagayan de Oro. Please create more events like this soon.
